About
After completing a BA with a double major in Religion & Theology and Behavioural Studies I went on to obtain a first class honours degree in Religion & Theology and Sociology, both at Monash. My honours thesis looked at how magical practitioners in the southern hemisphere construct circle rituals.
I am presently writing a PhD thesis on communities in the virtual world Second Life which seek to replicate ancient Egyptian religion.
This is a fascinating study and has highlighted a bunch of interesting stuff about how people adopting paganism in a post Christian world come to understand paganism.
The aspects of this research relating to culture and social relations mediated by the internet are, I feel, going to shed a lot of light on what shape 21st century culture will be. Never has it been truer to say, life's a game!
I am also a virtual worlds developer, having developed sims for the University of Queensland, the University of Tasmania and several private clients.
